Hollison 300th Anniversary Youth Quilt Project
Welcome to the Youth-based Community Quilt project to celebrate Holliston’s 300th Anniversary
Kids! Design your own 5-inch square that reflects something you like about living in Holliston. Be creative using a variety of fabric mediums. Participation can be as a group through scouts, the arts, sports or individual. Makerspaces will be provided at Studio on the Hill, 1038 Washington St and other sites around town. This project is free!
Youth of all ages are encouraged to participate.
Our goal is to create 300 individual quilt squares.
The deadline is November 30th, 2024.
These squares will then be sewn into a larger quilt for display in the town Library. Participation can be from formal groups like sports teams, theater groups, scouts, art classes, music groups (band), dance groups, destination imagination or individual kids who want to express themselves as part of this project.
All quilt entries will be created in the month of November 2024. Interested kids can pick up quilt square blocks from the project coordinator Becky and make their quilt square at home or a drop-in Makerspace will be made available at Studio on the Hill.
This is a free project, and all are encouraged to participate. Our goal is to collect 300 quilt squares during the month of November so the quilt can be completed by 2024 year’s end.
Most importantly, kids should have fun creating this community quilt!!
Guidelines:
1) You will be given a 5-inch square of colored fabric. Please leave a quarter of an inch on each side of the square for sewing. Please sign your square with your name using fabric markers.
2) Your quilt square should reflect something about your experience growing up in Holliston.
3) Your design can include:
a. Written words: A poem, a word that means something to you (PEACE), words of encouragement.
b. Drawn picture: using fabric markers or fabric paint draw an image that is meaningful to you, could be of self or something you have done this year.
c. Sewn piece of fabric: Using colorful fabric, novelty fabric, felt, yarn or fleece, create your image by sewing onto the quilt square (no sewing experience needed).
4) Please only use fabric friendly mediums such as fabric markers, fabric paint, and fabric. We do not recommend using paper. Check with Becky regarding use of adhesives such as glue.
